We are offering telehealth appointments for everyone. If you have a Care Plan or DVA referral from your GP then you can access a Medicare Rebate. NDIS, Private Health Insurers, and Defence Health are also funding telehealth appointments.
Although attending healthcare appointments is considered a legitimate reason to leave the house, we are also fortunate to be able to easily provide appointments via telehealth. Telehealth means using video conferencing or telephone for health appointments.
Video conferencing is a great alternative to in-person appointments. We use easy to use software call “Zoom” that can be accessed on a phone or computer. You don’t need to create a login in or create any more usernames or passwords. Your consultation will be secure and private between you and your dietitian in the same way that it would be in our clinic.
SOME OF THE CHALLENGES:
- It needs internet and a phone, tablet or computer with a camera. Headphones are useful too.
- The first time makes you feel uneasy – so it is lucky we are so friendly and helpful and make you feel relaxed again in about 5mins flat!
- You haven’t folded the washing and put it away! Don’t worry because we haven’t either! Plus the software we use enables you to put an exotic location in the background so we can’t see your washing and you feel like you are on holiday! (which we all need right now)
THE BENEFITS OF VIRTUAL CONSULTATIONS:
- You can get support to stay motivated and healthy while at home
- Opportunity for more practical sessions such as pantry makeovers and cooking sessions
- Share each other’s screens and compile grocery lists and recipes together with specific products that are going to benefit you most.
- We get to see your smiling face ?
Soon after booking your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the private videoconference. If this is the first time you have used this software then we encourage you to click this link before your appointment so you can download the zoom software (on a computer) or app (on a phone or tablet). Your will then be directed to a virtual waiting room. At the time of your appointment, your dietitian will take you from the waiting room to your consultation
If you don’t have a computer or feel uneasy about using video conference software then don’t worry. We can still use the traditional telephone for consultations.
